Scripture Reference: Revelation 3:2
“Wake up! Strengthen what little remains, for even what is left is almost dead. I find that your actions do not meet the requirements of my God.” — Revelation 3:2
In this season of shaking and upheaval throughout the world, the Lord continues to highlight several themes for His people. The primary theme is the call to live by faith. “The just shall live by faith” is a vital message, especially when everything around us appears to be crumbling. Faith amid the ruins is more than just a poetic concept. It is essential for those who want to follow Christ in these times.
Too often, we trudge along as if God is some distant figure who expects nothing from us. Yet Micah 6:8 refutes that notion: “He has showed you, O man, what is good. The Lord requires you to do justly. You must love kindness and mercy. Humble yourself and walk humbly with your God.” Chaos and confusion surround us. When foundations are being destroyed, we must ask ourselves an important question: What will the righteous do?
Will we rest on our laurels? Turn a blind eye? Succumb to the deception and misinformation that surround us? Will we seek the Lord? Will we forsake our way of doing church? Will we return to God’s way of building His church? The church, in many ways, has neglected the truth of the gospel. When I watch some church services, I am struck by how little of the Word of God is actually preached. Whatever happened to the uncompromising proclamation of the gospel?
Foundations are crumbling and kingdoms are shaking. God’s wish is to give His people a future and a hope. The church must awaken to what He is requiring in these dark times. Hebrews 12:26-27 reminds us that God is shaking everything that can be shaken. This is so that what cannot be shaken may remain. Let us therefore offer to God pleasing service and acceptable worship. We receive a kingdom that is firm, stable, and cannot be shaken. We should do this with modesty, pious care, and godly fear and awe. For our God is indeed a consuming fire.
We are called to live in the world but not of it. That does not mean we should ignore the realities facing society today. The church stands at a crossroads—a moment where complacency will lead to spiritual desolation. The vision I received in November 2007, “Strengthen what remains,” is more urgent now than ever. Many are living for self, oblivious to the condition of God’s house. It is time to be strong and courageous. We must mourn the emptiness and weakness that grieves the heart of God. Yet, we must also rise up and rebuild.
Just as Jesus spoke to the seven churches in Asia Minor, He is calling His church today to change our ways. We must return to preaching the gospel. We need to restore what is broken. God’s house is in dire need of restoration and reformation; the world is desperate to be reconciled to Him. If we truly care, we must get involved in His project to rebuild the church and strengthen what remains. The hour is late, but hope is not lost. Will you answer the call?
