Trusting God’s Sovereignty in a World of Self-Reliance

As you read these words, my prayer is that the Holy Spirit will breathe life into the truth of Scripture and awaken your heart to the reality of who God is. The Word of God makes it plain: His thoughts are not our thoughts, and His ways are not our ways. He does not move according to human wisdom, natural reasoning, or earthly systems. And when God is truly at work in a person, the evidence cannot be hidden. His presence changes us, His power reshapes us, and His nature transforms us until the world can see the difference that only God can make.

The world tells us to rely on strategy, skill, influence, and human ability. It tells us to build our own vision, set our own agenda, and trust what we can measure and control. But that is not the way of the Kingdom of God. God will not share His glory with human pride. Again and again, He chooses methods that confound the wise and humble the strong so that no one can boast in themselves. When God moves, He does it in such a way that all glory, all honor, and all praise belong to Him alone.

Think about the city of Jericho in Joshua 6. If we had been there, we probably would have wanted military experts, powerful weapons, and a detailed attack plan. But God gave His people instructions that sounded unusual: march around the city, trust Him, and obey. There was no human strategy that could take credit for the victory. When the walls fell, everyone could see that it was God who had done it. God wanted to reveal Himself, not just win a battle.

This is still true for us today. Whenever God gives an assignment, He also provides what is needed to carry it out. We see this in Jesus’ command to “go and make disciples” in Matthew 28. God never asks His people to do something and then leaves them alone. But He does ask us to move forward in faith. Hebrews 11 reminds us that faith means trusting God even when we cannot yet see the outcome. God’s work is done through people who believe Him enough to obey.

That is why God often avoids doing things the way the world would do them. If He used only human systems and human strength, people might admire the method but miss the Lord. God’s first purpose is to reveal Himself so that people will know Him, trust Him, and be drawn to Him. Yes, He accomplishes His purposes, but He is always doing something deeper at the same time—showing the world who He is.

So when God’s ways seem different, slow, or even surprising, do not lose heart. His ways are not meant to confuse us but to teach us to trust Him. As we walk with Him in faith, His life becomes visible in ours. And when that happens, others will not just see what was accomplished—they will see the difference that only God can make
