Choosing Leaders by Their Fruit: A Biblical Call for Discernment

As I look at elections around the world, I keep thinking about how important it is to seek God’s wisdom when choosing leaders. We should not be moved only by popularity, smooth words, or big promises. We should look for people whose lives and actions show godly character.

Jesus said, “You will know them by their fruit.” That means we should pay attention to what comes from a person’s life. Do their actions show love, truth, humility, justice, and compassion? Or do they only say what people want to hear?

Good leadership is not just about sounding good in front of people. It is about doing what is right when no one is watching. It is about serving others, protecting the weak, walking in honesty, and caring more about people than power.

Before we support any leader, we should pray, use discernment, and ask: What kind of fruit are they producing? Are they bringing peace, fairness, and hope? Are they leading with wisdom and integrity? Are they helping people, or simply trying to win people over?

Popularity will pass away, but the fruit of a person’s life will reveal the truth. May we choose leaders with prayerful hearts, open eyes, and a desire for what is right in God’s sight.

In summary, “You will know them by their fruit” teaches us to look beyond words, appearances, and titles and pay attention to the consistent results of a person’s life. True character is revealed through actions, choices, and the way someone treats others. For believers, good fruit should reflect a heart being shaped by God through love, humility, truth, patience, and obedience.
