“Will You not revive us again, So that Your people may rejoice in You? Show us Your mercy, Lord, And grant us Your salvation.” (Ps. 85:6-7)
The church was never meant to drift with culture, tradition, or personal preference. It was called to stand on the unchanging Word of God. In every generation, the people of God must be willing to examine what we believe, how we live, and how we function as the body of Christ in light of Scripture. True reformation is not about chasing something new; it is about returning to what God has already established.
Ecclesia reformata, semper reformanda secundum verbi Dei means, “the church is Reformed and always being reformed according to the Word of God.” In simple terms, the church must continually be corrected, shaped, and brought back into alignment with Scripture.
This does not mean the church changes with every trend or cultural opinion. True reformation is not about becoming modern; it is about returning to what God has already said. The Word of God—not culture, tradition, personality, or preference—is the standard.
Ephesians 4 teaches that Christ gave leaders to equip the saints for the work of ministry. That means the church was never designed for a few people to do everything while the rest of the body remains unequipped, uninformed, or inactive.
First Corinthians 12 reminds us that we are one body with many members. Every believer has a place, a function, and a responsibility. When the saints are not equipped, the body does not function properly.
This is not a small issue. It becomes a doctrinal issue, a disobedience issue, or both. When God has given His pattern and we ignore it, replace it, or water it down, it is an affront to His purposes.
The church must always be reformed because people drift, systems drift, traditions drift, and hearts drift. But the Word of God does not drift. The Word corrects what is out of order and restores what has been neglected.
God is calling His church back to biblical order, maturity, unity, and obedience. Leaders must equip the saints, and the saints must grow into their God-given place in the body of Christ.
Scripture reminds us, “So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” — Ephesians 4:11–12
If the church is going to be healthy, mature, and effective, we must return to God’s pattern. Reformation begins when we stop measuring the church by man’s preferences and start measuring it by God’s Word.
Lord, reform Your church according to Your Word. Correct us, mature us, equip us, and bring us back to Your standard.
