There is a big difference between wanting to be right and being righteous. Being right often means proving a point. Being righteous means choosing God’s way, even when it costs us pride, comfort, or popularity.
“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you.” (Ps. 89.14)
Psalm 89 reminds us that righteousness and justice are the foundation of God’s throne. In everyday words, that means God does not build His Kingdom on confusion, selfishness, revenge, or favoritism. He builds on what is right, fair, holy, loving, and faithful.
When we say we belong to God, our lives should reflect His heart. We are not called to win every argument. We are called to walk in His light. We are called to show mercy, speak truth, love people well, and stand for what is just.
What Does Righteousness Look Like?
Righteousness is not about acting perfect or looking more spiritual than others. It is about letting God shape our hearts and choices. It is choosing honesty when lying would be easier. It is forgiving when bitterness feels justified. It is helping the hurting instead of ignoring them. It is refusing to add to division with gossip, blame, or harsh words.
Isaiah 58 gives us a very practical picture. God says that when we stop pointing fingers, stop speaking maliciously, feed the hungry, and care for the oppressed, then our light will rise in the darkness. That means righteousness is not only what we believe; it is how we live.
We Are Called to Repair What Is Broken
Our families, churches, cities, and nation need people who will repair instead of tear down. God calls His people to be repairers of broken walls and restorers of places where people can live in peace. That starts with us.
We can repair what is broken by praying faithfully, serving humbly, speaking wisely, forgiving quickly, and standing for justice with love. We can be bridge-builders in a divided world. We can bring light into dark places because the Lord is our light and salvation.
A Simple Challenge
Today, ask yourself: Am I trying to be right, or am I trying to be righteous? Am I building people up, or tearing them down? Am I carrying God’s light into my home, church, workplace, and community?
Time is too precious to waste on distractions, arguments, and pride. God is calling His people to align with His truth, walk in His presence, and become a visible sign of His love and justice in the earth.
Prayer
Lord, make us people who love what You love. Teach us to walk in righteousness and justice. Help us to stop pointing fingers and start healing wounds. Use us to repair what is broken in our families, communities, churches, and nation. Let Your light shine through us, and let our lives bring honor to Your name. Amen.
