The Way We Treat Others Matters to God

How we treat people is not a small thing to God. It is not just about being “nice” or having good manners. The way we speak to people, help people, forgive people, and show love to people says a lot about what is going on in our hearts.

Jesus taught us to treat others the way we want to be treated. In Matthew 7:12, He said, “Do to others what you would have them do to you.” That means before we judge, ignore, gossip, or mistreat someone, we should pause and ask, “Would I want someone to do this to me?”

God cares about how we handle people because people are made in His image. When we are kind to others, patient with others, and willing to help others, we are showing the love of God in a real way. Proverbs 14:31 reminds us that whoever is kind to the needy honors God. Matthew 25:40 also teaches that when we serve “the least of these,” we are serving Jesus Himself.

It is easy to say we love God, but the Bible challenges us to show that love in how we treat people. 1 John 4:20 says that if we say we love God but hate our brother or sister, we are not being truthful. In other words, our relationship with God should change the way we deal with people.

This does not mean people will always be easy to love. Some people may hurt us, disappoint us, or get on our nerves. But God still calls us to be kind, forgiving, and tenderhearted. Ephesians 4:32 says, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

Every day, we have chances to honor God by how we treat someone else. A gentle word, a helping hand, a listening ear, a forgiving heart, or a simple act of respect can make a difference. Love is not only something we say; it is something we live.

So today, let us ask God to help us see people the way He sees them. Let us be careful with our words, generous with our kindness, and willing to love even when it is not convenient. Because the way we treat others matters to God.
