Hebrews 10:10 says, “And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” Romans 6:10 says, “The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.” These verses remind us of one powerful truth: Jesus did not have to die again and again. His sacrifice was complete the first time.
In the Old Testament, sacrifices were offered over and over again. People brought animals to be sacrificed because sin had to be dealt with. But those sacrifices could only point forward to something greater. They could not fully remove sin forever. They were like a reminder that people needed a Savior.
Then Jesus came. He did what no animal sacrifice could ever do. He gave Himself. He was innocent, holy, and without sin, yet He took the weight of our sin upon Himself. When He died on the cross, He paid the price we could never pay. His blood was enough. His sacrifice was enough. His love was enough.
That is what “once for all” means. It means Jesus’ sacrifice was final. It does not need to be repeated. It does not need to be added to. It does not need our good works to finish it. Jesus finished the work of salvation through His death and resurrection.
This should bring great comfort to every believer. We do not have to live wondering if Jesus did enough. We do not have to live trapped in guilt, shame, and fear when we have come to Him in faith. His sacrifice was not weak. It was not temporary. It was not incomplete. It was powerful, perfect, and everlasting.
Romans 6:10 also tells us that the death Jesus died, He died to sin once for all, but the life He lives, He lives to God. This means Jesus did not stay in the grave. He rose again in victory. Sin did not defeat Him. Death did not hold Him. He lives, and because He lives, we can have new life too.
Because Jesus died and rose again, we are called to live differently. We do not have to be slaves to sin anymore. We can turn away from the old life and walk with God in a new way. This does not mean we will never struggle, but it does mean sin no longer has the final say over us. Jesus has broken its power.
When we understand that Jesus gave Himself once for all, it should move us to gratitude. We should not take His sacrifice lightly. He did not die so we could keep living any kind of way. He died to save us, cleanse us, forgive us, and bring us into a real relationship with God.
So when the enemy tries to remind you of your past, remember the cross. When guilt tries to rise up, remember the blood of Jesus. When you feel unworthy, remember that Jesus gave Himself willingly for you. His sacrifice was once for all, and it is still enough today.
Jesus paid the price completely. He opened the way for us to be forgiven, made holy, and brought near to God. Now we are called to live for Him, not out of fear, but out of love. The One who gave everything for us is worthy of our whole hearts.
Closing Prayer
Father God, thank You for the once-for-all sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Thank You that His blood is enough to forgive, cleanse, and make us new. Help us not to take the cross lightly. Teach us to live in gratitude, walk in obedience, and remember that because Jesus lives, we can live a new life in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
