Jesus said, “A time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth” (John 4:23–24). In simple words, Jesus was saying that worship is not just about a place, a program, a song, or a religious routine. Real worship starts in the heart.
Sometimes we think worship only happens when music is playing, when we are in church, or when everything feels right. But true worship is deeper than that. It is when our hearts are turned toward God honestly, humbly, and sincerely. It is when we honor Him not only with our lips, but also with our lives.
To worship God “in spirit” means we are not just going through the motions. We are connecting with Him from the inside. We are allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us, shape us, and draw us closer to the Father. Romans 8:14 reminds us that those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.
To worship God “in truth” means we come to Him as we really are. No pretending. No masks. No fake holiness. God is not looking for perfect performances; He is looking for sincere hearts. Psalm 51:17 says that a broken and humble heart is something God will not reject.
This is good news because it means worship is not limited to Sunday morning. We can worship God while praying in our room, serving others, forgiving someone, choosing obedience, giving thanks, or simply trusting Him in a hard season. Colossians 3:17 says that whatever we do, whether in word or deed, we should do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus.
The Father is still seeking true worshipers today. Not people who only look religious on the outside, but people who love Him deeply, follow Him honestly, and surrender to Him daily. Jesus said in Matthew 15:8 that some people honor God with their lips, but their hearts are far from Him. That is a reminder for all of us to keep our worship real.
So today, let us ask ourselves: Is my worship coming from my heart? Am I letting the Spirit lead me? Am I walking in the truth of God’s Word? Because the time Jesus spoke about is not only coming—it is already here. Now is the time to worship God in spirit and in truth.
