“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” — 1 Corinthians 1:18
Sometimes the message of the cross does not make sense to the world. People may wonder how strength can come through suffering, how victory can come through death, and how salvation can come through a crucified Savior. But this is the beauty of the gospel: God’s way is higher than our way.
The preaching of the cross is not about human greatness. It is not about what we can earn, prove, or accomplish on our own. It is about what Jesus has already done for us. He died for our sins, shed His blood to bring us peace with God, and offered Himself as the sacrifice we could never provide.
To the natural mind, that may sound too simple or too humbling. We often want to believe we can fix ourselves, save ourselves, or become good enough by our own efforts. But the gospel gently brings us to the truth: we need mercy. We need grace. We need Jesus.
The world may look at the cross and see weakness, shame, or failure. But faith sees something different. Faith sees love poured out. Faith sees sin paid for. Faith sees a Savior who gave His life so that we could be forgiven and made new.
This is why the gospel is foolishness to those who are perishing. A heart blinded by pride and unbelief cannot see the treasure of Christ. But rejection does not make the gospel weak. The cross remains the place where God’s wisdom, justice, mercy, and power are revealed.
For those who believe, the gospel is not just a teaching to understand; it is power to experience. It opens blind eyes. It softens hard hearts. It brings dead souls to life. It gives forgiveness to the guilty, peace to the troubled, hope to the broken, and strength to the weary.
Verse for Reflection: “But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.” — Galatians 6:14
Reflection: Have I been tempted to measure God’s truth by the world’s wisdom? The cross reminds me that God’s greatest work may not always look impressive to human eyes, but it is mighty to save.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the message of the cross. Help me not to be ashamed of the gospel, even when the world does not understand it. Open my eyes to see Your wisdom, Your love, and Your power in Jesus Christ. Keep my heart humble, grateful, and faithful to the Savior who died and rose again for me. Amen.
