A two-part reflection on reclaiming authentic Christianity and the coming reformation
“What has been, it is what will be, and what has been done, it is what will be done. So there is nothing new under the sun.” — Ecclesiastes 1:9
There are moments in history when the Church has to stop and ask a painful question: Whatever happened to the Gospel? Not the church programs. Not the political slogans. Not the cultural arguments. Not the religious traditions we inherited. The Gospel. The simple, powerful good news that God loved the world, sent His Son, redeemed mankind, and calls us back to Himself through faith in Jesus Christ.
Ecclesiastes reminds us that there is “nothing new under the sun.” The same patterns repeat themselves. People drift from truth. Nations become proud. Religious people confuse God’s kingdom with earthly power. Churches grow busy but sometimes become spiritually dull. And yet, in every generation, God calls His people back to His Word.
Part One: Falling Away from the Gospel
Many people are falling away from church, but even more troubling is that many are falling away from the truth of the Gospel message. Some are tired of hypocrisy. Some have been wounded by leaders. Some have watched churches fight over power, politics, money, and personalities while the message of Jesus seemed to fade into the background.
But the answer is not to abandon Christ. The answer is to return to Him. The problem is not the Gospel. The problem is what happens when people add to it, replace it, or use it for purposes Jesus never intended.
The Gospel is not a tool for control. It is not a weapon for pride. It is not a flag for one nation, one party, one race, or one culture. The Gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ came to save sinners, reconcile us to God, and make us one family through His blood.
The Rise of Christian Nationalism
One of the great dangers of our time is the rise of Christian nationalism. At its core, it mixes the name of Jesus with the hunger for earthly power. It can sound religious, but it often produces fear, anger, suspicion, and division instead of love, humility, repentance, and truth.
Jesus did not come to build an empire like the empires of this world. He came announcing the kingdom of God. His kingdom is not built by force, hatred, or domination. It is built by truth, sacrifice, righteousness, mercy, and the power of the Holy Spirit.
When the Church forgets this, we become vulnerable to the same mistakes of the past. We may use God’s name while ignoring God’s heart. We may quote Scripture while failing to live Scripture. We may defend Christianity in public while neglecting Christ in private.
Profound Ignorance of God’s Word
As in times past, we live in profound ignorance of God’s Word. Many know religious phrases but not the Scriptures. Many know church culture but not the character of Christ. Many can argue about prophecy, politics, or doctrine, but cannot clearly explain the Gospel in simple words.
This is why the cry of my heart is simple: “Lord, open the eyes of Your people.” Open our eyes to see Jesus again. Open our eyes to love the Word of God again. Open our eyes to recognize where we have drifted. Open our eyes to repent, return, and rebuild on the foundation that cannot be shaken.
