Jesus’ Church is in need of reformation and restoration.
I do not say that to attack the Church. I say it because I love the Church. I say it because I believe the Lord is calling His people back to what really matters.
Several years ago, the Holy Spirit began leading me down this path. I remember reading Church Awakening by Chuck Swindoll, and something in me began to stir. Later, in 2019, while reading Reclaiming Authentic Faith by A. W. Tozer, the words “Reclaiming Authentic Christianity” rose up in my spirit.
Since then, I have not been able to shake it.
When I talk about reclaiming authentic Christianity, I am not talking about going back to a style, a tradition, a denomination, or a certain way we used to “do church.” I am talking about returning to Jesus. I am talking about returning to the gospel. I am talking about becoming people who know God’s Word, hear God’s voice, and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.
We have become very good at building things. Bigger buildings. Larger platforms. Better programs. More polished services. Stronger church growth strategies.
But we have to ask ourselves some honest questions.
Are people being transformed?
Are disciples being made?
Are believers learning how to hear God for themselves?
Are we preaching the gospel of the Kingdom, or are we simply maintaining religious activity?
Because authentic Christianity is more than sitting in a building and listening to Scripture being read. It is more than attending services. It is more than joining programs. Authentic Christianity is a surrendered life. It is walking with Jesus every day. It is being filled with the Spirit of God. It is learning to obey when the world is loud, confusing, and full of competing voices.
And we are living in a loud time.
The noise is everywhere. Politics. Media. Social media. Conspiracy theories. Anger. Fear. Negative rhetoric. Everyone seems to have a report, an opinion, a warning, or a side they want us to take.
But the question for the Church is this: whose report will we believe?
In times like these, we cannot afford to be led by outrage. We cannot afford to be led by fear. We cannot afford to be led by political talking points dressed up in spiritual language. We need the Holy Spirit to lead us into truth. We need to know what is on the Father’s heart.
From my perspective, one of the greatest needs in the Church today is for believers to clearly hear the voice of God for themselves.
Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” John 10:27
That verse is simple, but it is powerful. Jesus did not say His sheep only hear the voice of culture. He did not say His sheep only hear the voice of politics. He did not say His sheep only hear the voice of popular opinion. He said His sheep hear His voice.
And if we belong to Him, we must learn to recognize His voice above every other voice.
This is where spiritual hunger matters. We need hunger for God again. Hunger for His Word. Hunger for prayer. Hunger for truth. Hunger for righteousness. Hunger to be filled with the Spirit, not just entertained by religion.
God is not looking for people who only know how to argue doctrine online. He is looking for people filled with the Spirit. He is looking for faithful and wise servants. He is looking for people who will preach the gospel, make disciples, love their enemies, walk humbly, and represent Christ well in the earth.
Jesus gave the Church a mission.
Matthew 24:14 says: “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”
