One of the most beautiful truths in Scripture is that God did not stay far away from us. He came close. In Jesus, God stepped into our world, took on flesh, and lived a real human life among real people.
John 1:14 says, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” That means Jesus did not simply appear to be human. He truly became human. He was born. He grew tired. He felt hunger. He experienced grief. He showed compassion. He faced temptation, but He never sinned.
Philippians 2:6–8 reminds us that although Christ was in very nature God, He humbled Himself and took the form of a servant. This is the heart of the gospel: the holy God came low enough to reach us, love us, and rescue us.
Because Jesus shared in our humanity, He understands us. Hebrews 4:15 tells us that we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses. Instead, we have One who was tempted in every way, just as we are, yet He did not sin.
So when we pray, we are not speaking to a God who is unfamiliar with pain, pressure, or struggle. We are coming to the One who knows. Jesus knows what it is like to be tired. He knows what it is like to be misunderstood. He knows what it is like to suffer. And because He knows, we can come to Him honestly and boldly.
The humanity of Jesus also reminds us that God’s love is not just a distant idea. It is personal. God did not love us from far away only. He came near enough to walk with us, weep with us, and carry our sins to the cross.
Hebrews 4:16 invites us to “approach God’s throne of grace with confidence.” That does not mean we come proudly or carelessly. It means we come trusting in Jesus. We come needing mercy to forgive us and grace to help us. We come because Christ has opened the way.
Whatever you are facing today, remember this: Jesus understands. He is not distant from your weakness. He is not shocked by your need. He is our Savior, our High Priest, and our Advocate. Because He became human, we can draw near to God with hope, confidence, and trust.
