God is not calling us to be merely right. He is calling us to be righteous.
“That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love…” (Ephesians 3:17)
Being right can win an argument, but being righteous reflects Jesus. God wants more than correct words from us. He wants hearts that are surrendered, humble, loving, and obedient.
Like oaks of righteousness, we are planted by the Lord to display His glory.
“They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor.” (Isaiah 61:3)
An oak tree does not become strong in one day. It grows slowly. Its roots go deep. It stands through heat, wind, rain, and changing seasons because it is planted well. In the same way, God wants us to be planted in His truth, His love, and His presence.
Healthy trees do not survive because of what people see above the ground. They survive because of what is hidden beneath the ground. Deep roots keep them steady when storms come.
“Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord… They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.” (Jeremiah 17:7-8)
The same is true for our spiritual lives. What is rooted in Christ will last. What is rooted in pride, anger, fear, or self will not stand forever. If our roots are shallow, every offense can shake us. Every disagreement can pull us out of peace. Every hard season can make us forget who God is.
That is why the question is not simply, “Do I want to be right?” The deeper question is, “Do I want to be righteous?”
Being right can make us loud. Being righteous makes us humble. Being right can defend our opinion. Being righteous helps us reflect Christ. Being right may prove a point, but being righteous shows the heart of God.
Every day we choose what we will bring into the world. Will we bring more darkness through pride, bitterness, and unforgiveness? Or will we be salt and light, preserving truth and shining God’s love?
“You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world.” (Matthew 5:13-14)
Salt preserves what is good. Light helps people see. When our lives are rooted in Christ, we do not add more confusion or destruction. We bring peace, truth, mercy, forgiveness, and hope.
The Christian life is not about looking strong on the outside while staying weak on the inside. God is forming deep roots in us. He is teaching us to trust Him, obey Him, love like Him, and stand firm in Him.
Deep roots produce stability. Obedience produces maturity. Trust produces perseverance. Love produces obedience. And a rooted life becomes salt and light to the world.
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith.” (Colossians 2:6-7)
When we stay rooted in God’s Word, grounded in His love, and planted in His presence, we become strong, steady, and fruitful. We become like oaks of righteousness, not for our own praise, but for the display of His glory.
Our prayer should be simple: Lord, make me less concerned with proving I am right and more concerned with living righteous before You. Root me in Your Word. Ground me in Your love. Plant me in Your presence. Let my life reflect You.
