The Bible teaches us to be careful about what we believe. Not every teaching is from God. Some ideas may sound spiritual, but they can lead people away from the truth. That is why God’s Word warns us about myths, fables, and teachings that do not agree with sound doctrine.
In 1 Timothy 1:3-4, Paul told Timothy to warn people not to teach false doctrine or spend time on fables and endless genealogies. These things can create confusion instead of building up faith. Our faith should be built on the truth of God’s Word, not on stories, opinions, or ideas that cannot save us.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 says that a time will come when people will not want sound doctrine. Instead, they will look for teachers who tell them what they want to hear. They will turn away from the truth and turn to fables. This is a serious warning for us today. We must not follow every voice. We must test every teaching by the Bible.
Sound doctrine means healthy teaching. It is teaching that agrees with Scripture and points us to Jesus Christ. Titus 2:1 says, “But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine.” Sound teaching helps us live holy, humble, loving, and faithful lives before God.
God has given us Scripture to guide us. 2 Timothy 3:16 says that all Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is useful for doctrine, correction, and instruction in righteousness. When we stay close to the Word, we are not easily carried away by false teachings.
We should also remember 1 John 4:1, which tells us not to believe every spirit, but to test the spirits to see whether they are from God. A teaching may sound good, but if it does not agree with the Bible, we should not follow it.
As believers, our goal is not to chase new ideas. Our goal is to know Christ, obey His Word, and walk in truth. Let us hold fast to sound doctrine, reject myths and fables, and let the Bible guide our faith every day.
Prayer: Lord, help us love Your truth. Give us wisdom to recognize false teachings and courage to follow sound doctrine. Keep our hearts close to Your Word and guide us in faith. In Jesus’ name, amen.
