Part 1: God’s Timeless Word Speaks Through Real-Life Stories
Have you ever wondered why the Bible speaks through so many stories, letters, laws, poems, and real-life situations? Sometimes people may wish the Bible sounded like God speaking directly from the sky to every person in every moment. But God chose a wise and personal way to speak. He gave His message through real people, in real places, facing real problems.
Second Timothy 3:16 says, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God.” This means the Bible is not just human opinion. God inspired the writers, but He also used their personalities, cultures, languages, struggles, and experiences. That is one reason the Bible connects with people from every nation and generation.
The Bible Speaks Through Real People
Most of the Bible was written to real people in real situations. Paul wrote letters to churches that were dealing with questions, conflicts, sin, confusion, and suffering. For example, when Paul wrote to the believers in Corinth, he was addressing real problems in their church. Today, we get to learn from the wisdom God gave through those letters.
Romans 15:4 says, “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning.” In simple words, the things written long ago still teach us today. God used their stories to help shape our faith, patience, hope, and understanding.
Timeless Truths in Everyday Examples
God’s message is full of timeless truth, but He often gave that truth through examples people could understand. Deuteronomy 22:8 told people to build a guardrail around the roof of a house. In that culture, people spent time on flat roofs, so the command protected others from harm. Today, we may apply the same principle by making sure someone wears a seatbelt, fixing unsafe steps, or caring about another person’s safety.
The details may change from culture to culture, but the heart of the message remains the same: love your neighbor, protect life, do what is right, and honor God in everyday choices.
God Speaks in Ways People Can Understand
If God had spoken only in mysterious language or revealed things people could not understand, many would have missed the message. Instead, God chose to speak through the languages, customs, and settings of people’s lives. John 1:14 says, “The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us.” Jesus Himself entered a real culture, lived among real people, and showed us God’s heart in a way people could see and understand.
This helps us see that the Bible is not trapped in one culture. It speaks across cultures because its truth comes from God. The setting may be ancient, but the message is still alive. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful.” God’s Word still reaches hearts today.
Why Culture Matters When We Read the Bible
Understanding culture helps us read the Bible carefully. It helps us see what was happening, why something was said, and what truth God was teaching. Some people learn best through direct rules, but many cultures learn deeply through stories, pictures, and examples. God used all of these methods in Scripture.
When we understand the original setting, we can better apply the truth today. We do not change God’s Word to fit culture, but we learn how God’s truth speaks clearly into every culture.
