In Luke 15:31, the father says, “Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.” What a tender picture of life in God’s family. When we are born again through faith in Jesus Christ, we are no longer outsiders looking in. We are brought into the Father’s house. We are loved, accepted, and given a place as His children.
1. We Receive a New Nature
One of the first blessings of being born again is that God gives us a new nature. We are not just called children of God; we are made children of God by a new birth. Jesus said, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3). That new birth is the work of the Holy Spirit. God gives us a new heart, a new life, and a new desire to walk with Him.
Second Peter 1:4 says believers become “partakers of the divine nature.” That does not mean we become God. It means His life begins to work in us. Little by little, we begin to love what He loves and turn away from what grieves Him. Galatians 4:6 says God sends “the Spirit of his Son” into our hearts, crying, “Abba, Father.” In other words, the Spirit teaches us to know God as our Father.
2. We Receive Near Fellowship with God
The father also says, “Thou art ever with me.” That tells us something precious about God’s heart. He does not only want people who serve Him from a distance. He wants children who walk with Him, talk with Him, trust Him, and enjoy His presence. Proverbs 23:26 says, “My son, give me thine heart.” That is what God desires from us: our hearts.
Through Jesus, we have been brought near to God. Ephesians 2:13 says, “But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.” That means we can come to Him in prayer. We can worship Him. We can open His Word and hear His voice. We can enjoy His presence day by day. And truly, the greatest part of our inheritance is not only what God gives us, but God Himself.
3. We Receive a Rich Inheritance
Then the father says, “All that I have is thine.” That is almost too wonderful to take in, but it is true. Romans 8:16-17 says the Spirit bears witness that we are children of God, “and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ.” Think about that. In Christ, we receive peace with God, forgiveness of sins, eternal life, the help of the Holy Spirit, and the promise of glory to come.
First Peter 1:3-4 says God has given us a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ and “an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you.” Everything in this world can change. Money can disappear. Health can fail. People can disappoint us. But the inheritance God gives His children is safe, sure, and everlasting.
Living Like Children of God
So if we are born again, we do not have to live like spiritual beggars. We belong to the Father. We are welcome in His presence. We can come boldly to His throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16). We can trust Him to supply our needs (Philippians 4:19). And we can rest in His love, knowing that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:38-39).
A Simple Invitation
Maybe as you read this, your heart is longing to know that you truly belong to God. The good news is that the Father is not far away, and His door is not closed. You do not have to make yourself worthy before you come. Come to Jesus just as you are, with simple trust. John 1:12 says, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” When you receive Christ, you receive more than forgiveness; you receive the Father’s love, the Father’s presence, and the Father’s promise. In Him, these words become personal: “Child, thou art ever with Me, and all that I have is thine.”
Father, thank You for loving me and inviting me into Your family through Jesus Christ. Help me to trust Him with my whole heart. Forgive my sins, make me new, and teach me to walk with You as Your child. Thank You for the inheritance You have promised to all who belong to Christ. Amen.
