When we look at the current state of our nation, it is easy to feel troubled. There is division, anger, confusion, and fear in many places. People are looking for answers, but many are looking in the wrong direction. We often put too much hope in leaders, systems, parties, money, and human strength.
But the Bible warns us plainly: “Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save” (Psalm 146:3). This does not mean we should not pray for leaders or care about our nation. It means we must remember that no person can do what only God can do.
We can also see trouble in the church. In some places, truth is being watered down. In other places, love is growing cold. Some people are following personalities more than they are following Christ. Others are tired, discouraged, or distracted by the cares of this world.
Jesus told us that difficult days would come. He said, “Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold” (Matthew 24:12). Paul also warned that in the last days people would be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, proud, and without self-control (2 Timothy 3:1-5). These words sound very familiar when we look around today.
Still, God has not changed. His Word still stands. His kingdom is not shaking. Hebrews 12:28 reminds us that we are receiving “a kingdom that cannot be shaken.” That is why our hope must not rest in what man can build, promise, or control. Our hope must rest in the Lord.
So what should we do? We should pray for our nation and our leaders (1 Timothy 2:1-2). We should speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). We should examine our own hearts (Psalm 139:23-24). We should love one another, forgive one another, and stay faithful to Christ.
These are serious times, but they are not hopeless times. The answer for the nation and the church is not found in man. It is found in Jesus Christ. He alone can save. He alone can heal. He alone is worthy of our trust.
Closing Prayer: Lord, help us not to place our hope in people, power, or earthly systems. Teach us to trust You with our nation, our church, and our lives. Search our hearts, draw us back to Your truth, and help us walk in love, humility, and faithfulness. Strengthen Your people to stand firm in Christ and to shine Your light in these difficult days. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
