Loving God and Loving People
Sometimes people seem unaware of the truth. At other times, they may simply feel overwhelmed by everything happening around them. When life becomes busy, painful, or distracting, we can miss what God is gently trying to show us.
God calls believers to live with open hearts and to stay aware of His truth. The gospel is not only something we believe. It is something we live every day.
Love God First
Our first priority is to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30). This relationship with God is personal and life-giving. It shapes how we think, speak, work, and care for others.
As our love for God grows, His love begins to guide us. We become more aware of His presence, more sensitive to His voice, and more willing to follow His Word. God does not lead us harshly. He draws us close with love, patience, and grace.
Colossians 3:17 reminds us that whatever we do, in word or deed, should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus. Loving God is not limited to church services or prayer time. It reaches into every part of life.
Love People Well
Our second priority is to love people (Mark 12:31). We show this love through kindness, patience, compassion, service, and forgiveness. Ephesians 4:1–3 calls us to walk with humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another in love.
Sharing the good news of Jesus is also part of loving people. Yet sometimes people need to experience God’s love through us before they are ready to hear what we have to say. Our actions can help them see that the message of Jesus is real.
Let Your Life Match the Gospel
Philippians 1:27 says, “Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ.” The phrase “manner of life” means our conduct—how we live in every area. The gospel should shape our words, attitudes, plans, work, relationships, and choices.
Paul also tells believers to stand firm in one spirit and work side by side for the faith of the gospel. Christians may not agree on every small matter, but we can remain united in love and focused on Jesus.
Faith should be visible. James 2:14 and 17 teaches that faith without works is dead. Good works do not earn salvation; salvation is God’s gift. But true faith produces loving action, obedience, and a changed life.
Jesus said, “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). Our goal is not to draw attention to ourselves. It is to help others see the goodness of God.
The Gospel in Everyday Life
The gospel is lived out at home, at work, in church, in our conversations, and in the way we respond to difficult people. Every day gives us opportunities to show God’s love, truth, and grace in simple, meaningful ways.
Practical Ways to Live It Out
- Conduct and integrity: Live as a faithful citizen of God’s kingdom instead of simply following the culture around you.
- Humility and service: Put others before yourself and serve with patience and love.
- Unity: Work side by side with other believers rather than allowing small disagreements to cause division.
- Action with faith: Show love, kindness, generosity, forgiveness, and obedience in everyday choices.
- Awareness: Slow down, pray, read Scripture, and ask God what He wants you to notice today.
A Simple Daily Challenge
Ask yourself: “Does the way I am living today reflect the gospel of Jesus?” Then choose one simple action: encourage someone, forgive an offense, help a person in need, speak truth with kindness, or share the hope you have in Christ.
Closing Prayer
Lord, help us stay close to You and keep our hearts open to Your truth. Teach us to love You with all that we are and to love people well. Let our words and actions reflect Jesus. Give us humility, patience, courage, and grace so that our daily lives gently point others to You. Amen.
