Come Away With Me And Rest

My beloved spoke and said to me, “Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, come with me. (Song of Songs 2:10)

There are times when we need to stop, get way to a quiet place where we can rest, pray and worship our Father.

On yesterday I was sharing on my Facebook page about Jacob when he was traveling from Beersheba and set out for Harran. When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set.  Tired, he took one of the stones there and put it under his head and lay down to sleep. Jacob had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it  At the top of the stairway stood the Lord. The Lord spoke to Jacob and gave him a promise that “All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring …  I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” This was truly a visitation from God.

Jacob began to worship God.  He acknowledged that the Lord had been in that place with him even though he did not know it. He set up a memorial and poured oil on it and named the place Bethel, meaning “this is God’s house.”

Jesus is always calling us to come, get away with Him.  It says in the MESSAGE Bible, “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (Matthew 11:28-30 MSG)

Many of you may be exhausted from life’s financial, health or relationship challenges.  Stop and rest! That’s what Jacob did. With the many demands of life we need to get away with Jesus for a while.

Jesus said to the disciples, `Come away with me. Let us go alone to a quiet place and rest for a while.’ (Mark 6:31)   We all need to cease from our daily striving and learn to rest.

Jesus says in Matthew 11:28-30,  “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

I encourage you today, take time to stop, rest, pray and worship God in all that He made because He said it was “good” and He is worthy of our praise.

Blessings,
