Hearing God’s Voice

voice

God’s voice opens your spirit to apprehend and perceive your God-given destiny and future. It may not be something you can hear with your physical ear, but rather something you must perceive (recognize, discern, distinguish) in your heart.

Therefore I am now going to allure her; I will lead her into the wilderness and speak tenderly to her. Hosea 2:14

God can speak in a still small voice, a gentle whisper or He can speak through thunder, lightning flashes, the sound of the trumpet, and a smoking mountain:

The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”

Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.

Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”  I Kings 19:11-13

Through this series of posts I hope to stir a hunger inside of you to step into all God has for you as a member of His family, and to stir your faith to impact the world all around you. God is in pursuit of people to reveal His love to them and through them. We can hear from heaven’s viewpoint and bring Christ’s redeeming love, hope, and solutions to people in every situation. Not just a quick fix, but healing and deliverance to the masses proclaiming freedom to the captives. In doing so “the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.” (Isa. 61) We so need this to take place in the world today!

What the world needs now is love. As human brokenness and suffering is realized each day all over the world in many different forms, Christ is calling the His Church to function more through the eyes of faith, hope and love. “But the greatest of these is love.” (1 Cor. 13:13)

When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance 19 and said to Moses, “Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die.” Exodus 20:18-19

When it comes to the thought of hearing God’s voice, I immediately think of the day I heard the Lord say: “Come up here and I’ll show you great and mighty things.”  It was a wonderful experience. I was just beginning to learn and understand scripture. I knew very little about the prophetic and hearing the voice of the Lord, yet I became hungry for more of Him.

I just returned from a wonderful gathering in Carlisle, PA of women pastors and leaders.  It was time apart from our busy schedules to spend time with the Lord and to be refreshed. God longs to speak to His people.  He longs for us to know His voice. We must be willing to the take time out to hear His voice and respond to His love.

Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” Jer. 33:3
