“For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 NLT
“The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. 12 Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do.” Romans 8:11-12 NLT
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. 29 For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.” Romans 8:28-29 NLT
Faith in Jesus Christ enables all believers to receive the righteousness of God as a free gift. As born again believers, we have now been made righteous or right with God through Christ. The Spirit of God now lives within the believer giving life to our mortal bodies. We are no longer obligated for do what our sinful nature urges. We are not obligated to our flesh, nor it’s sinful desires!
As believers, we are predestined by God to be conformed to the image of His Son in holiness and righteousness. Every child of God inherits the Father’s divine nature by the new birth experience. We are “conformed to the image of His Son” as we grow and mature in Him.
Jesus came as the Last Adam, and the nature through which He lived a sinless life is the same nature God gives all His children who accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. It is through allowing ourselves to be ruled by Christ’s divine nature that we are capable of achieving mastery over sin. We are now joint-heirs with Christ Jesus in all He was able to accomplish for us through His death. More than anything, His death, burial and resurrection accomplished for us the opportunity to live eternally with God!!!
As Christ’s representatives in the earth, the Lord Jesus expects His people to do acts of righteousness and justice in the earth. Micah 6:8 says. “No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” Righteousness is doing right from God’s perspective. It involves living in a way that glorifies Him. It also involves looking out for the well-being of the vulnerable, oppressed, and disadvantaged in society.
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. —2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT
God is preparing His people to fulfill their God-given assignments in the earth. He has equipped the saints to do righteous acts (good works) and justice to address those issues that are of concern to Him.
“And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.” –Revelation 19:8
