But there is a God in heaven that reveals secrets,…” (Daniel 2:28, 47)

As Christians, we must align ourselves with the Word of God — with what the Lord is saying in this time. Doing so will change your life. I do understand that some may be skeptical or lack understanding of how God speaks and that He still speaks through His prophets and prophetic people. The prophetic is still much alive today!

The secrets revealed from the Lord are meant to be a blessing to the Church. Deuteronomy 29:29 says: “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.”

When God speaks a prophetic word over a person, church, community or nation, He is revealing something. He is looking for us to steward the word He gives us. There are some prophetic words that are sovereign and will happen no matter what, like the ones given about Christ’s return, but most prophetic words involve the cooperation of mankind in some way.

God gives you a future oriented prophetic word so that you will take hold of that and in faith pull it into your now. — Graham Cooke

So how do we treat a prophetic word?

Throughout the years that I’ve been walking with the Lord, He has revealed secret things that I didn’t know about my prophetic destiny and His Church that were for an appointed time history. As I receive the word, I use discernment, knowledge of scripture and what other prophetic voices were saying to weigh the word – is it from God or not or possibly my imagination. After believing and wholeheartedly embracing it, I came to understand that God would never call me to something I’m not capable of achieving with His help. We can do all things through Christ!

I found it helpful to write down the word in a journal or a note on my iPhone so that   I can access and remind myself of it. Also, I’d ask God about it, I’d ask Him to clarify it and give me understanding. I’d ponder on it, and carry it in my heart until it becomes clear. Doing these things are proving to be a blessing in my life.

Keep in mind, there are different conditions that go with a prophetic word. The prophetic words or secrets revealed to us are dependent upon our actions and obedience. A prophetic word is God revealing His desired outcome and plan for you in a certain area. That means from the time that word is given to its fulfilment – everything in between is now designed to test us and train us to become the person that God saw when He spoke over us.

The prophetic word in Psalm 105:19 says this about Joseph’s word: “God’s promise to Joseph purged his character until it was time for his dreams to come true.” A true prophetic word will test your character until its fulfillment. Keep your eyes on the cross!

The process from prophecy to fulfilment is our training and proving ground, where we cultivate the identity and develop the faith, focus and favour required to move in the Spirit at that level. — Graham Cooke

And I will put this third into the fire, and refine them as one refines silver, and test them as gold is tested. They will call upon my name, and I will answer them. I will say, ‘They are my people’; and they will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’” (Zechariah 13:9 ESV)

So that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 1:7 ESV)

Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tried you in the furnace of affliction.” (Isaiah 48:10 ESV)

Paul encouraged Timothy to remain faithful with the responsibility entrusted to him, in keeping with the very first prophecies that were spoken over his life, and were in the process of fulfillment in the work of ministry he had been assigned. With this encouragement Paul instructed Timothy to “use your prophecies as weapons as you wage spiritual warfare by faith and with a clean conscience.”  By recalling the prophetic words you will be able to fight the battle well. (1 Tim.1:18-20 TPT). Many times during spiritual warfare I’ve had to recall the prophetic words I received, especially when it look as though the fulfillment of them were delayed.

God wants lasting fruit to be produced in our lives. We must never forget that God is for us, “who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31) We are living in volatile times and must be confident to believe this as spiritual truth and not just theory.

Prophetic words or prophetic secrets when they are revealed from God, can bring decreed blessings, prophetic announcements, prophetic directions, warnings, and revelation. There are many examples throughout Scripture of prophetic words that were given for the express purpose of changing people’s lives for the good. Prophetic words worked in Bible days and they help us today!
