“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
The people He has chosen for His own inheritance” (Ps. 33:12).
I am writing this post from a prophetic perspective through the eyes of grace. America is in serious trouble. Regardless of which side of the political aisle you sit, it is clear our democracy continues to unravel every day. The United States has become politically divided, or politically dysfunctional. This is not how God established governments to function. From family breakdowns to the immigration crisis to the continuing racial divide to Congress’ inability to function, it is clear that our nation is unraveling. A house divided cannot stand!
How did the world’s most powerful country get to this point? Albeit this is not the sole reason for America’s decline George Washington prophetically warned the American people against the negative impact that opposing political parties could have on the country. He was worried that future political squabbles would undermine the concept of popular sovereignty in the United States. He specifically stated, ”However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.1
The world is undergoing a great shaking at this present time in history. Haggai 2:6 and Hebrews 12 speaks of a time the Lord of armies will shake all nations. This shaking or transition will usher in a kingdom that cannot be shaken. Although not everyone is seeing from the same perspective, I believe everyone who will tune in will know that it is time to rebuild God’s church today.
“For this is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: In just a little while I will again shake the heavens and the earth, the oceans and the dry land (Hag. 2:6 NLT).
“Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking. For if the people of Israel did not escape when they refused to listen to Moses, the earthly messenger, we will certainly not escape if we reject the One who speaks to us from heaven! When God spoke from Mount Sinai his voice shook the earth, but now he makes another promise: “Once again I will shake not only the earth but the heavens also.” “This means that all of creation will be shaken and removed, so that only unshakable things will remain. Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe. For our God is a devouring fire” (Heb. 12:25-28 NLT).
On four separate occasions the Lord spoke to Haggai revealing the role that he would play in the monumental project of rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem, which lay ruins. Haggai’s mission was to lead the people of Jerusalem in rebuilding the temple of God, a work that had started several years ago but had been abandoned. A praying nation’s power does not rest in her armies, military hardware or in her political parties. It is not measured by her economic achievements or her technological advances. Her power rests in her people, their sincere, authentic prayers, and in the One in whom she prays. Her hidden strength is in the powerful God who they serve with godly fear and awe. Psalm 33:8-12 provides … “For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood firm. The Lord nullifies the plan of nations; He frustrates the plans of peoples. The plan of the Lord stands forever, The plans of His heart from generation to generation. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people He has chosen for His own inheritance” (Ps. 33:8-12).
“Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! Lord, they walk in the light of Your face. In Your name they rejoice all the day,
And by Your righteousness they are exalted. For You are the glory of their strength, And by Your favor our horn is exalted. For our shield belongs to the Lord, And our king to the Holy One of Israel” (Ps.89:15-18).
A Call to Prayer:
God hasn’t given up on America!
““Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “Return to Me with all your heart, And with fasting, weeping, and mourning; And tear your heart and not merely your garments.” Now return to the Lord your God, For He is gracious and compassionate, Slow to anger, abounding in mercy And relenting of catastrophe” (Joel 2:12-13 emphasis mine).
It’s time to set aside our preferences and egos and go before the Lord as one body. A time for setting aside personal agendas, organizations, denominations, structures, and the like, and come together once and for all as the body Christ paid the price for and call on the name of our great God and King. “For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins (Col. 1:13-14).
This is a time to call everyone together. “Gather all the elders and leaders and the rest who live in the land. Call everyone to the temple of your God, the Eternal. Then cry out to Him with all your heart” (Joel 1:14) . A time for seeking the Lord while He may be found, calling upon Him while He is near (Isa. 55:6).
I encourage you to pray for spiritual discernment to discern good from evil, true and counterfeit. Repent for past mistakes including apathy, denial, and rebellion (James 4:8-10). Pray that believers will discern according to the heart and spirit of a matter and not according to the flesh (1 Sam. 16:7). Pray for our nation to walk in the fear of the Lord and the knowledge of His holiness (Ps. 25:12-14; Isa. 11:3).
Lastly, in obedience to the scriptures pray 1 Timothy 2:1-4, “First of all, then, I urge that requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made in behalf of all people, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
Blessings,
Minister A. Francine Green
