Rejecting Darkness and Embracing Faith
Ephesians 5:11 reminds us to “Have nothing to do with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.” This verse is a call for believers to live in a way that honors God by rejecting the things that lead us away from Him and embracing a life illuminated by faith, hope, and love.
Darkness, in this context, represents actions, habits, or thoughts that do not bear good fruit—things that do not bring joy, peace, or growth in our spiritual lives or our relationships. These could be harmful tendencies like dishonesty, negativity, greed, or anything that distances us from the truth and light of God’s Word. The Bible challenges us not only to steer clear of these things but to shed light on them, helping others see the truth and beauty of living in God’s goodness.
What does this look like in everyday life? It’s about making choices that reflect integrity, kindness, and love. It’s about standing up for what is good and true, even when it’s uncomfortable or inconvenient. It’s about letting your faith guide your steps and being a beacon for others who might be struggling in their own darkness.
The Transformation of Churches
Recently, I’ve witnessed an incredible movement of revival in many churches that once seemed on the verge of closure. These communities, which were struggling, have now turned around, becoming vibrant and thriving centers of worship and fellowship. It’s been a joy to speak into their lives during this transformative journey, watching them prepare for a brighter future, rooted in faith and collective effort.
This turnaround is a powerful example of rejecting the works of darkness. These churches have chosen to confront challenges—whether it’s dwindling attendance, internal divisions, or other struggles—and instead focus on renewal through prayer, unity, and commitment to God’s purpose. Their stories remind us that light can overcome even the darkest situations, bringing life and restoration.
A Message on Living by Faith
In one of my recent messages, I spoke about the simplicity and strength found in living by faith. Faith is the foundation upon which we build our lives, trusting that God will guide us, provide for us, and use us for His glory. Living by faith doesn’t mean life is always easy, but it means that we walk forward, even in uncertainty, with confidence that God’s light will illuminate our path.
This call to “just live by faith” is a reminder that we are not alone. Faith is about surrender—letting go of our fears and doubts to embrace God’s promises. It’s about trusting His timing, even when we don’t understand it. Faith isn’t passive; it’s active, requiring us to keep moving forward, to keep trusting, and to keep shining light into the world around us.
Let’s be encouraged today to reject the unfruitful works of darkness and live boldly by faith. Whether it’s within our churches, our families, or our communities, we can be agents of transformation. Just as light dispels darkness, faith transforms our lives, turning challenges into opportunities for growth and blessings. Let’s live in that light and invite others to join us.
