The Bible says, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” — Matthew 5:6
To hunger and thirst for righteousness simply means to want God more than anything else. It means we are not satisfied with just looking religious, hearing encouraging words, or going through church routines. We want what is right in God’s eyes. We want His truth, His holiness, His justice, His love, and His will to shape our lives.
Today, many people are hungry, but they are being offered the wrong meal. Much of what is called “gospel” today focuses more on comfort, success, money, popularity, and feeling good than on Jesus Christ, repentance, salvation, and living for God. God does bless His people, but blessings were never the main reason Jesus came to earth.
Some messages sound spiritual, but they quietly move people away from the cross. The “prosperity gospel,” “health and wealth gospel,” “name it and claim it gospel,” “feel-good gospel,” and hyper-grace teaching can make people think the Christian life is mostly about getting what we want from God instead of surrendering our lives to Him.
The true gospel is not complicated: God loved us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to rescue us from sin and bring us back to Himself. Jesus died for our sins, rose again, and made the way for us to be forgiven, changed, and reconciled to God. That is the message the church must never lose.
Second Timothy 3:16-17 reminds us that Scripture is given by God and is meant to teach us, correct us, train us, and prepare us for every good work. In other words, the Word of God does not just inspire us; it equips us. If what we are hearing does not lead us closer to truth, obedience, maturity, and purpose, then we need to test it by Scripture.
Second Timothy 4:3-4 warns that a time would come when people would no longer want sound teaching. Instead, they would look for teachers who say what they want to hear. That warning is serious. It means we must be careful not to choose messages just because they are easy, exciting, or popular. Truth does not always tickle our ears. Sometimes truth corrects us, humbles us, and calls us back to God.
Jesus’ message to the church in Ephesus in Revelation 2 is also a warning for us today. That church worked hard and stood against false teaching, but Jesus said they had left their first love.
We can be busy in church, know the right words, and still drift away from the deep love we once had for Christ.
Revival begins when God’s people return to Jesus with honest hearts. It begins when we repent, open the Bible again, pray with hunger, love one another sincerely, and make the gospel the center of everything we do. The church does not need a better show. We need the presence of God. We do not need a watered-down message. We need the pure gospel of Jesus Christ.
A great spiritual awakening can come to America, but it must begin with the church. It must begin with believers who are hungry and thirsty for righteousness again. May we return to our first love, hold tightly to God’s Word, preach Christ clearly, and live as people who truly believe Jesus is the only hope for the world.
