Jesus said in Matthew 6:33, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” In simple words, Jesus is telling us to put God first—not second, not only when life is hard, and not only when we have extra time. He is calling us to make God our first priority every day.
To seek God’s kingdom means to look for His will, His way, and His presence in every part of our lives. It means we ask, “Lord, what do You want?” before we ask, “What do I want?” It means we invite God to rule and reign in our hearts, our homes, our choices, our relationships, and our future.
Jesus also tells us to seek His righteousness. That means we do not just want God’s blessings; we want God’s character to shape us. His righteousness is His way of living, loving, forgiving, serving, speaking, and treating people. When we seek His righteousness, we are saying, “Lord, make my life look more like Yours.”
God’s kingdom is not just a place we talk about someday. It is His rule and reign breaking into our lives now. It is learning to live in His presence, listen for His voice, trust His timing, and walk with Him in ordinary moments. It is also life together—loving one another, carrying one another’s burdens, forgiving quickly, and showing the world what it looks like when God is truly King.
Seeking first the kingdom does not mean we ignore our needs, responsibilities, or dreams. It means we place them under God’s care. We trust that when He is first, everything else finds its proper place. Our work, family, plans, worries, and desires all become surrendered to Him.
