There are Christian leaders today who have become an embarrassment to the kingdom of God. That is not said with joy, anger, or pride, but with grief. A leader in the church is called to point people to Jesus, preach the gospel, live humbly, and help prepare the way of the Lord. But some have traded that holy calling for political power, public influence, personal platforms, and the praise of people.
Instead of standing on the Word of God, some have chosen to stand with political factions. Instead of calling people to repentance, righteousness, holiness, and love, they have allowed worldly agendas to shape their message. The church was never meant to be the mouthpiece of any political party. The church belongs to Jesus Christ, and our first loyalty must always be to Him.
There are others who have made the faith seem like a path to personal wealth instead of a life surrendered to God. They preach “name it and claim it,” prosperity, and self-gain more than they preach the cross, repentance, service, sacrifice, and obedience. God can bless His people, but the gospel is not a tool for greed. Jesus did not die so we could build our own kingdoms. He died to bring us into the kingdom of God.
This ought not to be. When church leadership loses its way, the people suffer. The witness of the church becomes weak. The name of God is misrepresented. Souls are confused. Many who are watching from the outside begin to wonder if the church is really about Christ at all.
But God is merciful. There is still a way back. The answer is not more performance, more fame, more money, or more control. The answer is repentance. The answer is returning to the truth of Scripture. The answer is humility before God. The answer is leaders who fear the Lord more than they fear losing followers, donors, titles, or influence.
The Lord said in Isaiah 30:15, “In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength.” That word still speaks today. In repentance and returning, we find rest. In quiet trust, we find strength. The church does not need to look more like the world to be effective. The church needs to look more like Christ.
Now is the time for leaders to examine their hearts. Now is the time for the church to pray. Now is the time to return to sound doctrine, holy living, servant leadership, and sincere love. The kingdom of God is too precious to be used for personal gain or political convenience. May we repent, return, and make room for God to purify His house.
Closing Prayer
Father God, we come before You with humble hearts. Forgive us where we have allowed pride, politics, money, popularity, or personal ambition to take the place of Your truth. Forgive leaders who have misrepresented Your kingdom, and forgive the church where we have followed personalities more than we have followed Christ.
Lord, call Your people back to You. Restore purity in the pulpit, humility in leadership, and truth in the church. Teach us to preach the gospel with courage, love, and faithfulness. Help us to seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, not our own comfort or gain.
May every leader who has gone astray hear Your voice and return. May every believer examine their own heart and walk in repentance. Bring rest, healing, and renewal to Your church. Let our lives sincerely reflect Your nature, and let the world see Jesus in us again.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
