The Book of Proverbs is full of everyday wisdom for the believer. It teaches us how to live, how to make better choices, how to honor God, and how to walk on the right path. Proverbs reminds us that real wisdom does not begin with people’s opinions; it begins with the Lord.
Proverbs tells us, “The Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” That means wisdom is not just being smart. Wisdom is knowing what God says, understanding His ways, and choosing to live according to His truth.
Get Wisdom and Do Not Let It Go
As believers, we should seek wisdom at any cost and never forsake it. The world offers many voices, shortcuts, and opinions, but godly wisdom leads us in the way of life. When we apply our hearts to understanding, we learn how to “walk in the ways of the good and keep to the paths of the righteous.”
Why choose foolishness when God has made wisdom available to us? We do not have to stumble through life guessing what is right. God has spoken through His Word, and He gives wisdom to those who seek Him.
The Path of Righteousness
Proverbs 4:11 says, “I instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths.” God’s wisdom does not lead us in circles. It leads us forward. It helps us make straight choices, honest choices, and righteous choices.
The path of the righteous is not always easy, but it is always worth it. When we walk with God, we begin to bear the fruit of light: goodness, righteousness, and truth. We learn to pause, pray, listen, and consider where our steps are taking us.
As I sat in the presence of the Lord, I sensed this reminder: when you walk in the path of righteousness, there is time. There is time to hear God. There is time to obey. There is time to grow. There is time to become rooted and steady instead of rushed and anxious.
Jesus Is Our Wisdom
Godly wisdom is not only a principle; it is found in a Person. Jesus has been made wisdom for us. When we look at Jesus, we see what wisdom looks like in real life. He knew when to speak, when to be silent, when to show mercy, when to correct, and when to walk away.
If we want to be wise, we must stay close to Jesus. We must let His Word shape our thoughts, His Spirit guide our choices, and His example teach us how to live.
Oaks of Righteousness
The Bible often uses pictures to help us understand spiritual truth. One powerful picture is the oak tree. An oak tree is known for strength and endurance, but its strength does not come only from what we see above the ground. Its strength comes from deep roots beneath the surface.
In the same way, believers need deep roots in God. Strong faith does not grow overnight. It is formed through prayer, obedience, time in the Word, worship, trust, and daily surrender. Roots take time, and so does spiritual maturity.
Isaiah 61:3 says God’s people will be called “oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.” That means God wants His people to be strong, steady, and fruitful. He plants us with purpose, and He grows us for His glory.
Planted by the Water
Jeremiah 17:7-8 says that the person who trusts in the Lord is like a tree planted by water, sending its roots toward the stream. This tree does not panic when heat comes. Its leaves stay green, and it keeps bearing fruit even in drought.
That is what wisdom does in us. It teaches us not to live by fear, pressure, or impulse. It teaches us to trust God deeply, even when life is dry, difficult, or uncertain.
For the Display of His Splendor
God has not planted us by accident. He knows where we are, what we face, and what He is growing in us. Even when we feel weak, unseen, or unfinished, God is still working beneath the surface.
So let us choose wisdom. Let us stay rooted in Christ. Let us walk the path of righteousness with patience and trust. The world needs to see people who are not easily shaken, people whose strength comes from the Lord, people planted by God and growing for His glory.
May we be those people—oaks of righteousness, planted by the Lord, displaying His splendor in every season.
