Leadership is not a throne for pride; it is a call to serve. Whether in government, business, or the church, when ego leads, people suffer.
The Bible warns us clearly: “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18). A leader controlled by pride may look strong, but pride makes leaders deaf to wisdom, blind to truth, and dangerous with power.
Pride stops listening
Ego rejects correction and surrounds itself with praise. But “where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety” (Proverbs 11:14).
Pride turns service into self-worship
An ego-driven leader wants to be seen, praised, defended, and obeyed. But Jesus said, “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant” (Matthew 20:26).
Pride creates fear
When people are afraid to speak truth, leadership is already sick. Healthy leaders welcome honesty. Proud leaders punish it.
Pride refuses accountability
A humble leader can say, “I was wrong.” A proud leader always blames someone else. But “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6).
Choose humility over hype
Do not be fooled by charisma, noise, or popularity. Look for character. Look for humility. Look for wisdom. Look for someone who serves more than they perform.
Before you vote for, promote, appoint, or follow a leader, ask: Do they serve people or use people? Do they listen or demand loyalty? Do they accept correction or attack anyone who questions them?
When ego sits on the throne, truth is silenced, people are wounded, and God is not honored. Choose leaders whose character is bigger than their title.
