What the Bible Says About Trusting People Who Repeatedly Lie

An open Bible and a rustic wooden cross sit on a wooden table inside a church.

If someone keeps lying over and over, don’t ignore it just because they have a big title, a famous name, money, power, a pulpit, or a position. Whether they are a politician, business leader, church leader, family member, or friend, repeated lying is a warning sign. The Bible teaches us that truth matters, and trust should be built on honesty—not status.

Proverbs 12:22 says, “The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.” Proverbs 19:9 warns that a false witness will not go unpunished. Psalm 101:7 says that no one who practices deceit will stand in God’s presence. Jesus also warned us to pay attention to a person’s fruit, because their actions reveal what is really in their heart (Matthew 7:15–20).

In simple words: love people, pray for people, and treat people with grace—but don’t blindly trust someone who has shown you again and again that they are not committed to the truth. God calls us to be wise, discerning, and truthful in all things. As Ephesians 4:25 says, we should put away falsehood and speak the truth.
