There is a deep concern on my heart about the spirit of deception in the world today, and even among some who profess to know God. This is not written to condemn anyone, but to lovingly encourage us all to examine our hearts before the Lord. In a time when many voices are speaking, we must be careful not to lose our reverence for God, our love for His Word, or our desire to live in a way that pleases Him.
Sometimes it can seem as though a veil has settled over the eyes, hearts, and minds of people. Truth can be heard, but not fully received. Scripture can be read, but not fully understood. Correction can come, but the heart may still struggle to yield. This is why we all need the help of the Holy Spirit to see clearly.
The apostle Paul spoke about this in 2 Corinthians 3. He described a veil that can keep the heart from understanding the truth of God. But Paul also shared the hope: when a person turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. In Christ, our eyes can be opened, our hearts can be softened, and our lives can be transformed.
This is why it is so important for believers to walk carefully and prayerfully in this season. Jesus warned that deception would come, and Scripture reminds us that outward religion is not the same as a surrendered heart. We can know the right words, attend the right gatherings, and still need the Lord to search us deeply and draw us closer to Himself.
Our feelings, opinions, traditions, and the culture around us can never be the final measure of truth. God’s Word must gently but firmly guide us. When the Lord corrects us, it is not to shame us, but to bring us back into alignment with His heart. His call to repentance, obedience, and holiness is also a call to life, freedom, and peace.
One of the difficult things about deception is that we may not always recognize when we are being affected by it. That is why humility is so important. A sincere prayer for all of us might be, “Lord, search my heart. Remove anything that keeps me from seeing You clearly. Take every veil from my eyes. Help me love truth, receive correction, and walk in obedience with a willing heart.”
This is a tender reminder that we need to stay close to Christ. We need prayer. We need the Word. We need discernment. We need the Holy Spirit to lead us, especially when so many things around us sound convincing but may not be rooted in truth.
The good news is that the veil can be removed. Hearts can be opened. Minds can be renewed. Lives can be changed. When we turn to the Lord with humility and faith, He meets us with mercy. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom, and that freedom begins as we surrender to Jesus and allow Him to teach us His truth.
May the Lord lovingly remove every veil, expose every lie with His truth, awaken our hearts, and draw His people back to the beauty, safety, and power of His Word.
