Sometimes we can get so caught up in our day-to-day lives that we don’t realize what is happening around us. We are busy working, taking care of family, paying bills, answering messages, making plans, and trying to keep everything together. Before we know it, our minds are full, our schedules are packed, and our spirits can become dull.
That is why spiritual discernment is so important. Discernment helps us see beyond what is obvious. It helps us notice when something is off, recognize when God is speaking, and understand what is really going on beneath the surface. Everything that looks good is not always God, and everything that feels urgent is not always important.
The Bible reminds us not to lean only on our own understanding, but to trust the Lord and acknowledge Him in all our ways (Proverbs 3:5-6). That means we have to slow down enough to pray, listen, and ask God for wisdom before we move. James 1:5 tells us that if we lack wisdom, we can ask God, and He will give it generously.
Romans 12:2 tells us not to be shaped by the patterns of this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. In other words, we cannot let the noise of life, the opinions of people, or the pressure of the moment guide us more than God does. We need a renewed mind so we can recognize His will.
Spiritual discernment also protects us. 1 John 4:1 says not to believe every spirit, but to test the spirits to see whether they are from God. Hebrews 5:14 reminds us that mature believers train their senses through practice to tell the difference between good and evil. Discernment grows when we spend time in God’s Word, stay prayerful, and pay attention to the Holy Spirit.
Today is a reminder to pause and look again. Do not be so distracted by your routine that you miss what God is revealing. Ask Him to open your eyes, sharpen your spirit, and help you walk with wisdom. In a world full of distractions, spiritual discernment is not optional—it is necessary.
