Have you ever noticed that there is a difference between looking at something and really seeing it? We can look around and see trouble, fear, sickness, confusion, injustice, and everything shaking around us. But seeing by faith goes deeper than that. Looking notices what is happening in front of us. Seeing by faith helps us recognize that God is still working, even when our natural eyes cannot prove it yet.
That is why the Bible keeps reminding us not to build our whole life on what we can see right now. Yes, the visible world is real. The problems are real. The pressure is real. But it is not the whole story. What we see can change in a moment. Money can come and go. Nations can shake. People can disappoint us. Bodies get tired. Systems fail. But what God has promised does not expire.
That is what 2 Corinthians 4:18 is talking about when it says we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. In everyday words, God is telling us, “Do not let temporary things run your heart.” Do not let today’s chaos steal your hope. Do not let what is loud, visible, and frightening become bigger in your mind than what God has spoken.
Hope Is for What We Cannot Yet See
Romans 8:24 says that if we can already see what we are hoping for, then it is not really hope anymore. Think about it: if it is already in your hand, you do not have to hope for it. Hope is for the thing you are still waiting on. Hope keeps reaching forward. Hope keeps trusting God before the answer shows up.
Faith is the same way. Hebrews 11:1 says faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. That does not mean we pretend problems are not real. It means we refuse to make the problem bigger than God. Faith says, “I may not see the whole answer yet, but I know the One who holds it.”
Walking by Faith in a Troubled Generation
Let’s be honest: we are living in a troubled time. There is a lot of confusion, anger, pride, rebellion, and spiritual darkness in the world. The Bible talks about a perverse heart—a heart that is crooked, pulled away from what is right. Proverbs 11:20 says the Lord detests a perverse heart, but He delights in those whose ways are blameless. In simple terms, God is not impressed with how good things look on the outside if the heart is not right. He is looking for people who will walk straight with Him in a crooked generation.
Peter once said, “Be saved from this perverse generation.” That still applies. But we do not overcome darkness by becoming bitter, fearful, or hateful. We overcome by turning fully to Christ, holding on to the word of life, and shining like lights right where God has placed us.
The Fire of God Begins in the Heart
And when we talk about the fire of God, we should remember that His fire starts in the heart. It burns away what is false. It purifies our motives. It wakes us up to truth. It gives us courage to speak what is right and strength to live in a way that honors Him.
The Church does not need more performance. We need spiritual sight. The prophetic vision is being restored—not so we can chase signs, but so we can see Christ clearly, hear the voice of the Lord, and get ready for His coming. There is spiritual work to be done. Hearts need to be made ready. Lamps need to be burning. Faith needs to be alive.
Enlarge the Tent
When God says He will enlarge your tent, I believe He is saying, “Make room for what I am getting ready to do.” Make room in your faith. Make room in your obedience. Make room in your prayer life. Make room in your heart for people who need hope, truth, and salvation.
So do not judge your future only by what you see today. The people of faith in Hebrews 11 did not receive everything in their lifetime, but they still saw the promises from far away and welcomed them. They lived like people who belonged to another kingdom. That is our call too.
A Simple Prayer
Lord, teach us not just to look, but to see. Help us stop being ruled by fear, confusion, and temporary things. Open our spiritual eyes to what You are doing. Cleanse our hearts from every crooked way. Help us live pure and blameless in this generation. Set our hearts on what is eternal. Let Your fire purify us, awaken us, and prepare us. Teach us to walk by faith and not by sight. In Jesus’ name, amen.
So today, do not just look at what is happening around you. Ask God to help you see what He is doing beyond it. What you see right now is temporary. What God is doing in the unseen is eternal.
