Finding a Clearer View of God
What Does the Bible Show Us About God?
The best way to correct a distorted view of God is to look at how God reveals Himself in Scripture. The Bible does not show us a God who is cruel, careless, or confused. It shows us a God who is holy, faithful, wise, merciful, and full of love.
- Exodus 34:6: God is merciful, gracious, slow to anger, and full of faithful love.
- Psalm 147:5: God is great, powerful, and His wisdom has no limit.
- Hebrews 13:8: Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
- John 3:16: God loved the world so much that He gave His Son.
- Romans 8:28: God works in all things for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.
These verses help us see that God is not one-sided. He is not only strong; He is also compassionate. He is not only holy; He is also gracious. He is not only above us; He is also near to those who seek Him.
Jesus Shows Us What God Is Like
If we want to know what God is like, we look at Jesus. Jesus welcomed ordinary people, healed the hurting, corrected the proud, forgave sinners, and showed compassion to the overlooked. He did not water down truth, but He also did not crush people who came to Him honestly.
Jesus said that whoever has seen Him has seen the Father. That means Jesus gives us the clearest picture of God’s heart. When our view of God becomes distorted, we need to come back to Christ and ask, “Is this what Jesus shows me about the Father?”
How to Begin Seeing God More Clearly
Seeing God clearly is not just about collecting facts. It is about seeking Him with an honest heart. We can know many things about God and still be distant from Him. Real knowledge of God shows up in prayer, humility, obedience, love, and trust.
- Ask God to show you where your view is distorted. Pray honestly and invite Him to correct false ideas.
- Read Scripture slowly. Pay attention to what the Bible actually says about God, not just what you have assumed.
- Look closely at Jesus. His words, actions, mercy, and holiness reveal the Father’s heart.
- Talk with mature believers. Healthy Christian community can help correct confusion and encourage growth.
- Be honest about pain. If hurt or disappointment has shaped your view of God, bring that pain to Him instead of hiding it.
Conclusion: Seek the True God, Not a Distorted Picture
Everyone’s journey is different, and it is normal to have questions. But we do not have to stay trapped in a distorted view of God. We can ask Him to show us the truth. We can seek Jesus, who reveals the Father clearly. And as we come to know God more deeply, our faith becomes less driven by fear and more rooted in love, trust, worship, and hope.
