Living Awake to the Gospel: A Call to Love God, Love People, and Share Jesus

Sometimes it seems like people are oblivious to the truth of the gospel. The word oblivious means “not aware of or not concerned about what is happening around one.” Spiritually, this can happen when people do not see the seriousness of sin, the love of God, or the hope found in Jesus Christ.

The Bible says that some minds are blinded so they cannot see “the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:4). Jesus also said that people can love darkness instead of light because their deeds are evil (John 3:19). This reminds us that ignoring the gospel is not just a lack of information; it is a matter of the heart.

As believers, our first priority is to love God with everything in us. Jesus said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” (Mark 12:30). This kind of love is not just words. It is an intimate relationship with God that shapes our choices, our attitude, our actions, and our purpose.

Our second priority is to love people. Jesus said, “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:31). Because we love God, we should also care about the souls of others. We do not share the good news to win an argument. We share it because Jesus saves, Jesus heals, Jesus forgives, and Jesus gives eternal life (John 3:16; Romans 1:16).

The gospel message is not something we only speak on Sundays. It is lived out daily. We show the gospel through love, patience, forgiveness, kindness, truth, and obedience. Jesus said that people would know we are His disciples by our love for one another (John 13:35).

So let us stay awake spiritually. Let us love God first. Let us love people well. Let us pray for blind eyes to be opened and hard hearts to be softened. And let us live in such a way that our lives point people to the truth of the gospel every day.

Call to action: Today, ask God to open your eyes, strengthen your love for Him, and give you boldness to share the gospel with someone. Do not ignore the truth. Receive it, live it, and share it. Pray for one person by name, show them the love of Christ, and look for an opportunity to tell them the good news of Jesus.
