You can’t operate in faith while still thinking from an old mindset.
Faith requires more than just saying the right words. It requires a renewed mind. If your mind is still being led by fear, doubt, past experiences, disappointment, or old patterns, it will be hard to step into the new thing God is calling you to.
That is why Romans 12:2 tells us, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Transformation starts in the mind. If your thinking does not change, your life will keep repeating the same cycles.
God wants to take you into a new dimension of faith, but you cannot bring old thinking into a new place. Ephesians 4:23 says to “be renewed in the spirit of your mind.” That means the way you think, process, believe, and respond has to be made new by the Word of God.
This is why it’s important to monitor your thoughts, especially the ones running in the background. Sometimes it is not the thought you say out loud that is holding you back. It is the subconscious thought you keep agreeing with without even realizing it.
Thoughts like, “I’m not ready,” “God won’t do it for me,” “It’s too late,” “I always fail,” or “Nothing will ever change” may feel familiar, but familiar does not mean truthful.
Second Corinthians 10:5 tells us to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ. That means when a thought does not line up with God’s truth, you do not entertain it. You do not agree with it. You shut it down and replace it with what God said.
If fear says, “You can’t,” faith says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). If doubt says, “It won’t happen,” faith says, “With God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26). If your past says, “This is who you are,” God says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
You cannot think old and believe new. You cannot keep rehearsing lies and expect your faith to grow strong. Faith grows when your mind is renewed, your thoughts are submitted to God, and your heart agrees with His Word.
So today, pay attention to what you are thinking. Ask yourself, “Does this thought agree with God’s Word?” If it doesn’t, shut it down. Replace it with truth. Speak the Word over your mind until your thinking starts matching the faith God is calling you to walk in.
A renewed mind is not optional for a new level of faith. It is necessary.
