When people become greedy for power, they can become blind to the pain of others. They will fight to keep their position, protect their friends, and hold on to control, even while the country is being hurt and families are suffering.
The Bible warns us about this kind of leadership. Proverbs 29:2 says, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan.” When leaders choose selfish ambition over righteousness, the people carry the burden.
God does not ignore unjust laws or policies that make life harder for the poor, the sick, the working family, the widow, the orphan, and the stranger. Isaiah 10:1-2 says, “Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees, to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed.”
It is not righteous to watch people suffer and stay silent just because speaking the truth may cost power, comfort, money, or popularity. Micah 6:8 tells us what the Lord requires: “To act justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”
True leadership is not about control. It is about service. It is about protecting the weak, defending what is right, and caring for those who are hurting. Psalm 82:3-4 says, “Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. Rescue the weak and the needy.”
A nation cannot be healed by pride, greed, lies, or fear. A nation is strengthened when its people and leaders choose truth, justice, mercy, and righteousness. Amos 5:24 says, “Let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!”
We must pray for our leaders, but we must also stand for what is right. Silence in the face of suffering is not faithfulness. God calls us to speak up for the people who are hurting and to choose righteousness over power.
Power will pass away, but God’s justice will stand forever. May we have the courage to stand on the side of truth, mercy, and the people who need help the most.
