Living Righteously in Covenant Devotion to God

“He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8)

“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)

Reflection

Righteousness is not only something we receive from God; it is also something we are called to live before Him. Through Jesus Christ, we have been made righteous by grace, not by our own strength or goodness. Yet this gift of righteousness invites us into a deeper covenant life—one marked by justice, mercy, humility, and faithful obedience.

To walk humbly with God means allowing His heart to shape our conduct in the world. It means loving not only with words, but with deeds and truth. It means seeing the poor, the hurting, the stranger, the oppressed, and the forgotten as people deeply loved by God. Our works do not earn salvation, but they bear witness that our faith is alive and that our hearts belong to Him.

Prayer

Gracious Father, thank You for making us righteous through the blood of Jesus Christ. We do not stand before You because of our own merit, but because of Your mercy and the finished work of Your Son. Teach us to receive this truth with humility and to live it with devotion.

Lord, help us to do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with You. Make us vessels of compassion, forgiveness, truthfulness, and service. Open our eyes to those in need, and move our hearts beyond comfort into faithful obedience. Let our covenant relationship with You be seen in our love for people, our pursuit of justice, and our willingness to serve. Amen.

Application

  • Ask God to show you one area where He is calling you to practice justice, mercy, or humility more intentionally.
  • Look for one practical way to serve someone who is hurting, overlooked, or in need.
  • Let your words and actions today reflect the righteousness you have received in Christ.
