Chasing Happiness: The Trap of Earthly Possessions

When people talk about “earthly things,” they usually mean material possessions and outward achievements—the things we can buy, own, display, post about, or use as evidence that our life is going well. And to be clear, there’s nothing wrong with wanting stability, beauty, comfort, or even success. The issue is not the existence of these things. The issue is what happens when they become the center of our hope—when we start expecting them to give us the kind of peace, identity, or security they were never meant to provide.

Chasing after earthly things can feel like running on a treadmill—you’re expending energy, but you don’t always feel like you’re getting anywhere that truly satisfies. Lasting fulfillment grows when we build a life that is not defined only by what we own, but by who we are becoming and how we are loving others along the way. So today, let this be your reminder: the shine of new stuff fades, but love, peace, kindness, purpose, and faith keep giving back. If this episode resonated with you, take a moment to reflect on one area of your life where you want to pursue contentment more intentionally this week. Thanks for listening, and I’ll meet you here next time.
