There are moments when the Christian life can feel too hard for us. We want to stay close to Jesus, but we know our own weakness. We remember the times we have drifted, failed, worried, doubted, or tried to carry life in our own strength. And if we are not careful, we may begin to think that abiding in Christ is only for those who are stronger, wiser, or more spiritual than we are.
But the beauty of the gospel is this: Jesus does not invite the strong to prove themselves; He invites the weak to rest in Him. Abiding in Christ is not a burden placed on tired shoulders. It is the soul leaning into the arms of the One who is able to keep us. When Paul said, “I follow after,” he did so because he knew he had already been “apprehended of Christ Jesus.” In other words, Paul kept reaching for Christ because Christ had already taken hold of him.
Dear heart, this is good news for you today. The same Savior who called you to come is the same Savior who will keep you as you abide. He is not asking you to hold yourself together by sheer willpower. He is asking you to trust Him. Trust Him when you feel weak. Trust Him when your faith feels small. Trust Him when your heart is tired. Trust Him when you cannot see the way forward. His keeping power is greater than your wandering heart.
So today, do not measure your walk with God by the size of your weakness. Measure it by the faithfulness of the One who holds you. Jesus does not sleep. He does not let go. He does not grow weary of keeping His own. Yield to Him. Rest in Him. Keep looking to Him. The One who has taken hold of you is able to keep you.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, teach me to abide in You. When I feel weak, remind me that You are strong. When I am tempted to depend on myself, draw my heart back to Your faithful love. Keep me close, hold me fast, and help me trust that You are able to finish the work You have begun in me. Amen
