As I read Luke 2:52, it touches my spirit in a fresh way: “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.” This simple verse reminded me that growth was part of Jesus’ earthly journey, and if our Lord grew, then we as His followers must also desire to grow.
Jesus did not stay in one place. He grew in wisdom, He grew in maturity, and He grew in favor with God and with people. That pricked my heart because many times we want the blessings of God, but we do not always give attention to growing in the things of God.
Wisdom is more than having knowledge. True wisdom is knowing how to live in a way that honors the Lord. Proverbs 2:6 says, “For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” If we want to grow spiritually, we must stay close to God’s Word and allow Him to teach us, correct us, and guide us.
Jesus also grew in stature. He lived in a real human body, walked through seasons of development, and learned obedience through a surrendered life. Philippians 2:7–8 reminds us that He humbled Himself, took on human likeness, and became obedient even to death on the cross. His growth was not separate from humility; it was connected to obedience.
This speaks to us as saints and as the body of Christ. We are called to follow His example, not only in words but in daily living. We should desire to grow in prayer, in the Word, in love, in patience, in humility, in obedience, and in how we treat others.
Ephesians 4:15 says we are to “grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ.” This means spiritual growth is not something we should ignore. God is calling us higher. He wants us to mature so that our thoughts, words, choices, and character begin to look more like Jesus.
2 Peter 3:18 also tells us to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” Growth happens when we remain teachable before God. It happens when we let the Holy Spirit search our hearts, strengthen our faith, and lead us into deeper surrender.
Today, this scripture invites us to pause and ask: Am I growing? Am I becoming wiser in the things of God? Am I maturing in my walk with Christ? Am I showing the love of Jesus to others? Am I allowing God to shape me into who He has called me to be?
May we never become comfortable with staying the same. If Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, then we as His body should keep growing too. Let us grow as saints who reflect Christ, honor the Father, and walk in love before others.
Prayer: Lord, help me to grow in wisdom, maturity, obedience, and love. Teach me through Your Word, lead me by Your Spirit, and shape my heart to look more like Jesus. May my life bring favor with You and be a blessing to those around me. Amen.
