We are living in a time when many nations are facing trouble, confusion, and division. It can feel like the world has lost its way. But before we only look at what is wrong around us, we must also look within.
God’s Word says, “Consider your ways” (Haggai 1:5–7). This is a call to stop, think, and ask ourselves, “Are my ways pleasing to God?”
In the days of Haggai, God’s people had returned from captivity in Babylon. They were busy building their own houses, but the house of God was still unfinished. They did not say they would never obey God. They simply said, “Not yet.” But delayed obedience is still disobedience.
What It Means Today
This word is still important for us today. As the body of Christ, we must ask honest questions. Do we truly reflect the heart of God? Do people see His love, holiness, mercy, truth, and compassion in us?
Sometimes we can become more focused on comfort, success, opinions, and the cares of this life than on the things of God. Our lives may look busy on the outside, while our hearts are dry on the inside.
God was not only concerned about a building. He was concerned about the hearts of His people. The unfinished temple showed that God was no longer first in their lives. In the same way, we must ask if God is truly first in ours.
We must consider our ways. Are we giving God our best, or only what is left over? Are we quick to judge the world but slow to examine our own hearts? Are we praying, forgiving, serving, giving, and loving the way Christ taught us?
Do Not Keep Saying “Not Yet”
The message from Haggai is clear: do not keep delaying what God has called you to do. Not yet to prayer. Not yet to repentance. Not yet to obedience. Not yet to forgiveness. Not yet to the work God has placed in your hands.
If God has shown us something that needs to change, now is the time to respond. If we have neglected our prayer life, our love for His Word, our unity, our compassion, our holiness, or our witness, now is the time to rebuild.
God is calling His people back to Him. He is calling us to live in a way that reflects the heart of Christ, not just with our words, but with our lives.
May we be a people who shine His light in dark times. May we have the courage to pause, humble ourselves, and truly consider our ways.
