“Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.” (3 John 2)
Genesis 2:7 (KJV) says, “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
When I think of wholeness from a Christian perspective I think of body, soul, and spirit. In that respect, wholeness means the state of being perfectly well in body, soul (mind, will and emotions) and spirit. The Topical Bible refers to wholeness in reference to perfect soundness, (“divinely-allotted wholeness“).
Strong’s Hebrew. 724. arukah — healing, restoration. Or rarukah {ar-oo-kaw’}; feminine passive participle of ‘arak (in the sense of. restoring to soundness); wholeness (literally or figuratively) — health,….
Wholeness was God’s original design for mankind. God made man from the dust of the ground and He became a living being. From that place of wholeness man was to have perfect fellowship with God in a love relationship. Adam and Eve were able to hear the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day (Gen. 3).
Our soul plays an essential part in how we relate to the Almighty God. If we are to love God with all our heart and with all our soul and with all our strength as it says in Deuteronomy 6:5, we must give careful attention to our soul. In “Renovation of the Heart, author, philosopher Dallas Willard has this to say about the soul, “Our soul is like a stream of water, which gives strength , direction and harmony to every other area of our life. When that stream is as it should be, we constantly refreshed and exuberant in all we do, because our soul itself is then profusely rooted in the vastness of God and his kingdom, including nature; and all else within us is enlivened and directed by that stream. Therefore we are in harmony with God, reality, and the rest of human nature and nature at large.”
The most important thing in your life is not what you do; it’s who you become. That’s what you will take into eternity.
