Understanding What It Means to Be Truly Right in God’s Eyes

Looking at Righteousness in Everyday Language

Let’s break down what it means to be “right,” “righteous,” or “self-righteous” in ways anyone can understand.

The Bible teaches that God’s throne is built on fairness and doing what’s right. Love and honesty are always in front of Him. People who know how to praise God and live with Him are truly happy because God gives them strength and lifts them up (Psalm 89:14-16). God is our light and our safety, so there’s no need to be afraid. The best thing we can ask for is to be close to God and notice how wonderful He is (Psalm 27:1, 4).

When Things Fall Apart: Staying Strong

Sometimes, it feels like the very basics of life are crumbling. What can good people do? The Bible says that God is always watching everyone and knows what’s in our hearts. He loves people who do what’s right and will take care of them, even when things seem bleak (Psalm 11:3-5, 7).

David, a leader in the Bible, had moments when he was tempted not to trust God, especially when life got tough. But real believers are invited to trust God, no matter what. Even when others are scared for us or give advice that sounds smart in a worldly way, it’s better to hold onto our faith and hope in God. Life can be hard, and sometimes bad people seem to get ahead, but God sees the truth and knows everyone’s value. If good people go through tough times, it’s to help them grow. Eventually, those who do wrong will face the consequences, but God gives everyone a chance to turn things around and find hope in Christ.

Let’s Not Lose Our Compassion

It’s sad how cold and harsh people can be these days, even those who say they follow Jesus. Sometimes, people say hurtful things like, “There’s a special place in hell for people like that,” but that’s not how God works. Jesus gave His life to free people from sin. We don’t have the right to judge or condemn others. Hell wasn’t made for people—it was meant for evil itself. But God gives everyone the chance to accept His gift of salvation.

Right vs. Righteous vs. Self-Righteous

Being “right” means acting according to truth or facts. It’s about being fair and just. “Self-righteous,” on the other hand, is when someone is sure they’re always correct and morally superior, especially when looking down on others. “Righteous” is deeper—it means living by God’s standards, being free from guilt, and truly just.

The Bible says that even our best efforts to be righteous can fall short (Isaiah 64:6). This doesn’t mean good deeds don’t matter, but it warns against being hypocritical or thinking we’re good enough on our own. Our relationship with God isn’t about earning His approval; it’s about accepting what Jesus did for us. We’re made right with God not by our own works, but because of His grace.

What True Righteousness Looks Like

True righteousness comes from God. God the Father is righteous, Jesus is the Righteous One, and through Him, we receive the gift of being made right. The Holy Spirit helps us live this way. Being righteous means having a real, loving relationship with God, not just following rules.

It’s better to focus on planting seeds of goodness and love, rather than just being “right” in our own eyes. The Church can help heal divisions and bring people together by pursuing righteousness, faith, love, and peace. This kind of unity isn’t found in the world but comes from God.

Making a Difference in Our Society

We have a chance to help heal and rebuild our culture by living righteously. If we stop being harsh and help those in need, God promises to guide us and meet our needs. We can help fix what’s broken in our families, communities, and nation.

We’re called to be “repairers of the breach”—people who help restore what’s been lost or broken. As we hunger for righteousness, we’ll be driven to make a real difference, no matter where we are.

Moving Forward With Hope

Life goes through seasons, and change is coming. Revival and healing can happen when people follow God’s light. The earth belongs to God, and everything in it. Instead of focusing on being “right” or “self-righteous,” let’s aim to be truly righteous by doing what pleases God. Let’s keep praying for our nation, cities, communities, churches, and families.

Admiring God’s Works and Praising Him

The more we recognize what God does, the more we’re amazed. Praising God means admitting He’s one of a kind and worthy of respect. Sadly, there’s often not enough reverence in our gatherings, and that’s something we should work on. God’s plans are always fair and right, stretching from eternity past to eternity future. Mercy and truth guide everything He does.

May you find grace, joy, and peace in Jesus Christ, our loving Lord. All glory to Him, now and forever.
